Moscow Exchange says US investment in Russia’s stock market rises
MOSCOW, Apr 19 (PRIME) -- U.S. funds have increased ownership of Russian securities since the sanctions started, CEO of the Moscow Exchange Alexander Afanasyev said on Thursday.
“Investment of foreign funds in Russian stock assets increased around 30% in 2017, and growth continued into January-March adding 13-15% on the quarter. U.S. funds have raised their ownership of Russian stocks since the sanctions began, not reduced,” he said.
“I am absolutely convinced that the market always beats artificial restrictions introduced for investors,” he also said and added that the upside of the Russian market outweighs investor wariness because of the sanctions policy.
Afanasyev said that the domestic market has proved to be steadier than many people had thought.
